Jailer 2 Box Office Collection Day 12: Rajinikanth’s Film Crosses Rs 400 Crore in India

Jailer 2 box office collection crossed Rs 400 crore net in India on Monday, its 12th day in cinemas, even as the first weekday after a huge second weekend brought the expected sharp fall in daily earnings. Rajinikanth’s action sequel collected Rs 9.45 crore net on Day 12, taking its India net total to Rs 408.15 crore, while the worldwide gross climbed to Rs 733.35 crore, according to trade tracking by Sacnilk. The milestone makes it only the third Tamil film ever to cross Rs 400 crore net at the Indian box office, and it got there in less than two weeks.

A Monday drop after a big Sunday is the most normal thing in box office reporting, and this one is no exception. What matters is what the film carried into the weekday: a second weekend worth Rs 64.35 crore net, a worldwide total already past Rs 700 crore, and a run that has now rewritten the Tamil box office record book twice over. The Rs 400 crore net mark is the latest line it has crossed, and it is unlikely to be the last.

Jailer 2 Box Office Collection: What the Rs 400 Crore Mark Means

Crossing Rs 400 crore net in India puts Jailer 2 in very small company. Only two Tamil films had done it before, and both of them starred Rajinikanth: 2.0 and the first Jailer. Gross figures tell the same story from a different angle: with India gross at Rs 477.85 crore, the film is closing in on the Rs 500 crore gross mark in India, a line only 2.0 has ever crossed among Tamil films. Whichever way the collections are counted, Jailer 2 is now one of the biggest Tamil earners ever at home.

The film’s strength is that it is not a one-language or one-state success. On Monday alone, Tamil contributed Rs 5.65 crore, Telugu added Rs 2.00 crore, Hindi brought in Rs 1.40 crore and Kannada around Rs 0.40 crore. The Hindi dubbed version, which opened in a limited number of single screens in North India, has quietly become a success of its own. This is a film that has travelled everywhere it opened.

Monday in Numbers: A Normal Weekday Fall

Day 12 brought Rs 9.45 crore net on Day 12 across 10,450 shows for the Jailer 2 box office collection, a 63.2 percent drop from Sunday’s Rs 25.70 crore. That sounds steep until it is placed next to the pattern of every big release: Sunday is the peak, Monday is the reset. The film still sold an estimated 714,175 tickets on Monday alone, taking total admissions past 27.1 million for the run. Occupancy across all languages stood at 19.8 percent on Monday, a normal weekday figure after a festive second weekend.

Overseas, Monday added Rs 2.50 crore, taking the international total to Rs 255.50 crore. With India gross at Rs 477.85 crore, the worldwide gross now stands at Rs 733.35 crore by Sacnilk’s count. Other trackers put the worldwide figure slightly differently, because overseas estimates and tax treatments vary between tracking services. The exact decimal points differ, but every tracker agrees on the direction and the scale.

The Second Weekend That Set Up the Milestone

The Jailer 2 box office collection in the second week has now delivered Rs 73.80 crore net in India across four days: Rs 14.50 crore on Friday, Rs 24.15 crore on Saturday, Rs 25.70 crore on Sunday and Rs 9.45 crore on Monday. That follows a first week of Rs 334.35 crore net, which means the film has added more than a fifth of its first-week total in just four days of week two.

The shape of the run is what trade watchers keep coming back to. Most films of this size open huge and fade fast. Jailer 2 opened huge, held through its first week, then actually grew through its second weekend, with Saturday jumping 66 percent over Friday and Sunday climbing again. A Monday fall was inevitable, but the film entered the weekday with enough momentum that the Rs 400 crore net milestone fell on the quietest day of the week so far. That is the sign of a film with genuine repeat viewing behind it, not just opening-weekend frenzy.

For the record, the day-wise India net run so far reads: Rs 59.70 crore on day one, then Rs 37.10 crore, Rs 47.25 crore and Rs 55.85 crore across the opening weekend, followed by Rs 42.35 crore, Rs 46.80 crore, Rs 28.15 crore and Rs 17.15 crore through the rest of week one, before the second weekend’s Rs 14.50 crore, Rs 24.15 crore and Rs 25.70 crore, and Monday’s Rs 9.45 crore.

The Record Book After 12 Days

The Jailer 2 box office collection has already rewritten the Tamil record book in twelve days:

  • It is the first Tamil film ever to cross Rs 700 crore worldwide, and it now stands at around Rs 733 crore.
  • It is the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time worldwide, having overtaken Rajinikanth’s own 2.0.
  • It has gone past the lifetime worldwide total of the first Jailer (2023), which finished at just over Rs 600 crore.
  • It is the third Tamil film ever to cross Rs 400 crore net in India.
  • The Jailer franchise as a whole has now crossed Rs 1,300 crore worldwide.

The next milestones are already in sight. The Rs 500 crore gross mark in India is the obvious one, and beyond that the film is tracking to challenge 2.0’s India total as well. If it gets there, Rajinikanth would hold both of Kollywood’s Rs 500 crore domestic grossers.

What Comes Next: The Rs 750 Crore Question

The question now is how far the film can go before the release calendar turns against it. There are no major releases in its path until Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana opens on 5 November, which gives Jailer 2 a clear run of more than a week. Weekday collections over the next few days will show whether the film has the legs for a long run, but the trade expectation is that the Jailer 2 box office collection keeps adding steadily until Ramayana takes over a large share of screens.

Director Nelson Dilipkumar has kept the tone close to the first film, mixing mass action moments with his trademark dark humour, while Anirudh Ravichander’s background score drives the big set pieces. Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer whose quiet life is shattered when a new criminal syndicate comes after his family. Mohanlal returns as Mathew, Shiva Rajkumar as Narasimha and Jackie Shroff as Kamdev, while the sequel adds S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan to the ensemble, with Yogi Babu also back in the mix.

Jailer 2 OTT: When and Where to Watch Online

A film whose Jailer 2 box office collection crosses Rs 400 crore net in India on a Monday, its quietest day of the week, is a film that is not done yet. Jailer 2 has already become the biggest Tamil film ever made, and with a clear run ahead of it until 5 November, the only real question left is how big the final number gets. The jailer, it turns out, was only getting started.
