Sreeleela joins Dharman in the biggest Tamil casting news of the day, with Rajinikanth’s next film adding one of the busiest young stars in South cinema to an already star-packed ensemble. The announcement came today, 4 November 2026, straight from the production house, and it immediately set social media buzzing about what Sreeleela’s role could be alongside the Superstar.

The announcement that came today
Raaj Kamal Films International, the banner headed by Kamal Haasan, announced the casting on Wednesday with a short video glimpse and a welcome message that read, “She’s got the spark. She’s got the pataka. Welcoming the gorgeous Sreeleela to Dharman.” Director Ashwath Marimuthu also welcomed the actor on his own timeline, making it clear that this is an official addition to the cast and not a rumour doing the rounds online.
The video uses animated stills of Sreeleela and a classical-flavoured track composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who is scoring the film.
Why this pairing matters for Sreeleela
For Sreeleela, this is a first. She has never shared the screen with Rajinikanth before, and Dharman marks her first collaboration with the Superstar. That alone makes the casting significant, because a Rajinikanth film remains one of the biggest stages in Tamil cinema. Sreeleela made her Tamil debut earlier this year with Parasakthi, and she has been steadily building a Tamil lineup since then.
Joining Dharman puts her in the middle of a project that already carries enormous attention, and it comes at a point when her career is moving quickly across Telugu and Tamil cinema. Her exact character has not been revealed by the makers, who have described her role only as a key one, so fans will have to wait for more glimpses to learn how she fits into the story.
The Dharman ensemble so far
Sreeleela joins Dharman at a stage when the cast is already full of familiar names. Nayanthara was announced in late October, in what will be her sixth collaboration with Rajinikanth, and the ensemble also features Simran, Raashii Khanna and Yogi Babu. That mix of generations is part of the film’s appeal: Rajinikanth at the centre, Nayanthara and Simran bringing decades of star presence, and Sreeleela adding a younger energy to the lineup.
The film is directed by Ashwath Marimuthu and produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International, along with R Mahendran of Turmeric Media. Rajinikanth is reported to play a stylish doctor in the film, though the makers have kept the full story under wraps so far.
Where the shoot stands right now
Dharman is well into production. The unit had completed its third shooting schedule by 30 September 2026, after a second schedule that ran from 13 August to 4 September and a third that ran from 16 to 30 September. Cast announcements arriving during the final phase of principal photography, first Nayanthara and now Sreeleela, suggest the makers are revealing the ensemble in stages rather than all at once. Reports indicate shooting could wrap by November 2026, but the makers themselves have not confirmed a wrap date, and this article does not claim one.
Release date: what is confirmed and what is not
Here is the honest position on the release date. The makers have not announced an official theatrical release date for Dharman. Reports in the trade press suggest the film is eyeing April 2027, with some reports describing it more broadly as a Summer 2027 release. Those windows are reports, not an official announcement, and they should be treated as tentative until Raaj Kamal Films International confirms a date.
No OTT platform or streaming date has been announced either, and there is no box office figure to report yet, since the film has not released. The film was previously referred to as Thalaivar 173, Rajinikanth’s 173rd film, before the title Dharman was confirmed.
5 exciting details about Sreeleela joining Dharman
First, this is Sreeleela’s first film with Rajinikanth, a pairing fans have not seen before. Second, the announcement came with its own promo video, not just a text post, with Anirudh Ravichander’s music setting the tone.
Third, she joins a cast that already includes Nayanthara, Simran, Raashii Khanna and Yogi Babu, making Dharman one of the most star-heavy Tamil films in production. Fourth, the film is directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, whose first collaboration with Rajinikanth this is, and produced by Kamal Haasan’s banner. Fifth, with shooting in its final phase, more casting and first-look updates are likely to follow soon, and this article will be the starting point for following them.
